Hey Keith,

I saw this on the Caddy Forum, but no one knew where to find power window regulators that could be easily converted to work in a Rabbit here in the USA. The secret is Audi 4000 rear window regulators. They are the same type. To convert a Rabbit, you'll need a pair of these. After removing your original mechanisms, drill out the four peened over holes holding the crank mechanism to the tube. (please excuse my well-used workshop)

Pry away the winder assembly. Drill out the corresponding holes on the 4000 parts and carefully separate the plates. Transfer this bracket to your regulator.

trim the motor mounting plate to look like this and mount it upside down compared to how it came apart from the backing plate originally.

bolt it together using the original 6mm screws salvaged from the 4000

while you're taking parts from the 4000, get the power window motor mounts from the front doors. You'll need 2 per door.

this is how it should look assembled - the studs from the rubber mounts match the holes in the door where the crank portion bolted on.

clean and lube everything, and give it a rest run before reinstalling. You'll have to assemble the motor to the regulator inside the door before moving it into place.

That's it . The hard part is done. The original harness for power windows has only 3 wires to hook up to the car - switched power, always hot, and ground. Now go figure out how to cover up the holes in your door panels. I used BMW window crank plugs from an E28 (82-88 5-series), but many models have them. If you look closely at the last picture, you'll notice the power lock actuator. That install is a little more involved if you want it to work with a remote, but it can be done, also using only OE parts.

Happy Modding!
